Dr.D.D.Kachole

Dr. D.D.Kachole is Principal (Retd.) of Shivchhatrapati College, Aurangabad. He is well known sociologist in the country. He has teaching and research experience of more than forty years at PG, M.Phil. and Ph.D. level. He is well known orator, great social worker in Maharashtra. He has delivered more than 500 lectures in national, state level seminars, symposia and conferences. He frequently delivers lectures in UGC Refresher and Orientation courses of various universities in the country. There are 60 books and 20 articles to his credit. He has been closely associated with the welfare of orphaned children and has worked as chairman of Child Welfare Committee, Government of Maharashtra, Aurangabad. He also worked as Chairman of Annabhausathe Pratisthan, Aurangabad. Twenty-five research scholars from India and abroad completed their research under his guidance. He has completed five survey projects and one major research project under University Grants Commission New Delhi, India.

Dr. Sanjay Salunke

Dr. Sanjay B. Salunke is working as Professor and Head in the Department of Sociology, Dean Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He has 25 years teaching experience. His area of specialization includes social research methods, social anthropology and sociology of ageing. He has successfully guided eight Ph.D. and twelve M.Phil. Students. He worked as co-ordinator of six refresher and orientation courses of UGC. There are three books and 27 articles to his credit. He has delivered 127 lectures as a resource person in refresher and orientation courses of various universities in the country. He worked as Chairman, Board of Studies of Sociology, and Member, Academic Council Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He also worked as Chairman, Board of Studies of Thoughts of Mahatma Phule and Dr.Ambedkar. He is working as member, study group for establishment of Tribal Research Center, Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded. He is also Member of Academic Council of Indian Studies Program Rio de Janeiro State University, Brazil and Member of Monitoring Committee for Private Television Channels by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Government of India, to Police Commissioner Office, Aurangabad (M.S.). Also worked as Secretary of RC-7 in Indian Sociological Society, New Delhi. He is now working as Member of Management Council and Chairman, Board of Studies of Sociology in Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Aurangabad.

DR. P K B NAYAR

The Award for 2011 is being presented to Prof (Dr.) P. K. B. Nayar, a reputed social scientist and gerontologist, well--‐known for pioneering research on ageing issues in India and assiduously highlighting their urgent concerns. He has five Master of Arts (MA) degrees in the following disciplines: Sociology, Economics, Economic Development, Political Science and History. He completed Ph.D. in Sociology from University of Pittsburgh, USA. He received French Government’s Award for Internationally Renowned Scientists.
   He worked for 42 years as a university teacher of which for 22 years he was head of the Department of Sociology of Dibrugarh and Kerala Universities. He was Visiting Professor at French and American Universities. He was Management Expert and Chief of Research with USAID in New Delhi. He is the founder and currently Chairman of Centre for Gerontological Studies, a pioneering research and advocacy agency on ageing in India for working on policy issues for the last 27 years. This Centre was awarded the Vayoshreshtha Samman in the year 2009 for outstanding contribution to ageing by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
   He is member of numerous important bodies concerned with ageing issues. He is a member of Governing Body of Indian Federation on Ageing, Kerala State Council for Older Persons and National Human Rights Commission Core Group on Welfare of Older Persons. As a member and researcher he makes concerted efforts to highlight the specific problems of the oldest old (80+) and older women particularly the widows. For the past 40 years he has been active in analyzing and highlighting the concerns of an ageing society both through research and advocacy. He has organized many conferences and seminars to raise awareness on ageing issues and has actively participated in many such national and international events. He has authored many books on gerontology. The most notable book was titled Gerontology for India: A Reference Manual He actively participated in formation of State Policies on Older Persons in Goa and Kerala. He was instrumental in bringing various associations of senior citizens in Kerala under the Confederation of Senior Citizens Organizations of Kerala. It is now the largest organization of senior citizens in Kerala with a membership of more than one lakh members.

   Edgard Leite é Professor Associado da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) e Professor Adjunto IV da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). Tendo lecionado em várias áreas do ensino superior, notadamente História, Filosofia e Museologia, Edgard Leite ingressou como professor auxiliar de História do Brasil na Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), em 1987. Naquela instituição concluiu seu mestrado e seu doutoramento, e, como diz, "a UFF foi minha maior escola e nela formei meu entendimento da teoria e prática do magistério universitário".
   Em 1990 foi aprovado em concurso público para Professor Assistente em História do Brasil, na UERJ. Em 1997 foi aprovado em concurso público na UNIRIO, para o cargo de Professor Adjunto I de História do Brasil, tendo então deixado a UFF. Segundo Edgard Leite: "a UERJ e a UNIRIO são minhas casas".
   Professor de História do Brasil, Edgard Leite acabou também por especializar-se em outros campos, como o ensino de História da Antiguidade Oriental, especialmente Índia antiga e Israel antigo. Segundo ele , "voltei-me para essas áreas a fim de compreender a origem remota de certos processos e realidades contemporâneas" . Continuou, paralelamente, desenvolvendo suas pesquisas em Histórias do Brasil, Moderna e Contemporânea, com ênfase em questões relacionadas ao estudo da modernidade e seus efeitos, "desdobramento necessário de minhas pesquisas de mestrado e doutorado"'. Dedicou-se, igualmente, ao estudo dos processos missionários na América Latina, especialmente ao estudo da Companhia de Jesus. Todas as suas atividades docentes encontram ancoramento em projetos de pesquisa específicos, desenvolvidos ao longo dos últimos vinte anos, o que permitiu a elaboraçãode uma consistente produção acadêmica.

Dr.V.B. Bhise

Dr.V.B. Bhise, Former Vice Chancellor Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He is also Director of Sahkar Maharshi Balalsaheb Pawar Research Centre, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He has 36 years experience of teaching and research in the department. He is recipient of three national level awards. Besides, he has successfully guided 45 Ph.D. and 35 M.Phil students. There are fourteen reference books to his credit. He has published ninety research papers in international and national reputed journals. He has completed three major research projects in economics. He has worked on various committees of UGC, ICSSR, and various universities in the country and abroad. He has been to New-Zealand, Germany, France, Japan, England and Canada. He has organised and participated national and international seminars.

Prof. C.A. Somashekharappa

Prof. C.A. Somashekharappa, Professor (Registrar of Karnataka Janapada University on deputation 2011-13), Specialized in Sociology of Environment, Sociology of Health and Medicine, Industrial Sociology, Urban Sociology, Social Problems, Community Study, Dalitology and Changealogy. He has 31 years of teaching experience, successfully guided 16 PhD’s and 10 M.Phils. Published 42 research papers 10 books and completed 5 projects of UGC ICSSR. He is elected member of Managing Committee of the prestigious Indian Sociological Society (ISS). He was the recipient of best NSS coordinator award. Coordinator of UGC SAP DRS-I, Dept. of Sociology, K.U.D till 2012. Attended and presented papers in 6 International Conferences and 80 National Conferences. Delivered 25 special lectures in Academic Staff Colleges and Plenary sessions in conferences and seminars.

Dr. Manish Thakur

Dr. Manish Thakur is Associate Professor,of Public Policy and Management Group of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. Previously, he was lecturer in sociology at Goa University, a Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. His research interests are political sociology and development studies. His published research deals with rural development knowledge institutions and discourses, research- policy interface, political culture, disciplinary practise, social movements and public policy.

Dr Manish Kumar Verma

Dr Manish Kumar Verma is working as Associate Professor in department of Sociology, school for Ambedkar studies, Dr.Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Central University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He is author of seven books and there are 11 articles published in international and national level journals to his credit. He has completed 3 research projects of U.G.C. He has presented papers in 52 international and national level seminars .He is member of nine academic bodies in the country. He has been to Japan.

Dr. B.K. Swain

Dr. B.K. Swain is at present Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology, RashtrasantTukadojiMaharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. He obtained his Master’s degree, M. Phil and Ph.D. in Sociology from the Department of Sociology, Nagpur University. He has 28 years of teaching and 26 years of research experience in sociology. The core areas of his interest include Classical, Modern and Critical Theories, Social Change, Mobility and Development, Women’s Studies, Sociology of Ageing, Sociology of Leisure and Work, and Methodology in Social Research. He has authored two books, one on “Changing Occupational Structure in Vidarbha, India”, published by Himalaya Publishing House, Mumbai, and the other on “Child Labour in India”, published by Dattsons, Nagpur. He has contributed several research papers to various research journals in India. By now, eleven scholars have already obtained doctoral degree on various problem areas in sociology under his supervision, with eight more still pursuing research under him for the same degree. Dr. Swain has presented two research papers in international conferences, one at the International Sociological Association’s World Congress of Sociology at Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2010, and the other at Palermo University, Italy, in 2011. Besides Sweden and Italy, he has visited the other foreign countries like Norway, Finland and Denmark. He has been regularly presenting research papers in All India Sociological Conferences and delivering keynote addresses in various national and state level seminars hosted by various Universities and colleges in different states in the country. He has been also frequently invited for chairing technical sessions and delivering talks at the all India, national and state level seminars. He has been regularly organizing state and national level seminars and workshops on the themes involving societal concerns, issues and problems. So far he has organized three national and two state level seminars, two University level seminars and three workshops, besides regularly organizing students’ seminars for last three years. He is being regularly invited by various Universities as a member of RRC, examination committee and selection committee for recruitment of various faculty positions of the teaching department. He has completed two research projects sanctioned by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. He is a life member of various professional bodies like Indian Sociological Society, Marathi SamajSashtraParishad, Indian Society of Human Rights, International Sociological Association and International Sociological Association’s Research Committee on Sociology of Leisure.
